Still Waiting at the Cummins Hotel!
My view tonight is of bays without water! We left Amana Colonies Campground today at noon and came back up to the Cummins Onan dealership where they had received the parts for our genset and were to put it back together, run it for a while and install it back in our coach. I thought we would for sure be on the road late afternoon... Fixed lunch and decided to go check out a campground by a race track a couple of blocks from here called Hawkeye Downs. They had room if we had to stay but not very long spaces. The tour of the day and something to occupy DH beside his book, was the trip we took downtown and by the river where all of the flooding took place last year. Many folks still really busy cleaning up and rebuilding, the business section has either rebuilt and reopened or relocated. Some folks have boarded up property and walked away. There was a fire station vacated and the Central Business office for the Cedar Rapids Fire Department was in that building. Driving around you had to look pretty hard for the water damage, except driving on the freeway looking down, you could see a lot of water damage on the shingles and rooves. We stumbled on a Czech Village and Bakery and stopped in there to sample some of the local pasteries on our Coffee Break. Heard a little about the history, flood story and they pointed out the water level up by the ceiling. When pointed out you could see the line where the new drywall started. There's definitely people working and living in the area. I haven't heard much whining like we did with New Orleans. These folks pulled up there bootstraps and are recovering. The picture with the words "Bent - Not Broken" kinda says it all! Way to go Cedar Rapids!
